I first received training for Reader's and Writer's Workshop while I was student teaching in the Monroe Township School district. This training was directed toward the younger grades. I enjoyed implementing the curriculum to my first grade student teaching class. My admiration for the curriculum sparked once I saw how much the students grew as readers and writers in a short amount of time!
When I began teaching 4th grade, I received additional training for Reader's and Writer's Workshop. After participating in the standard new teacher's training, I was fortunate enough to experience four workshop days. Here, delegates from Teacher's College taught and demonstrated new lessons to my colleagues and I. These sessions were influenced by current pedagogy, which helped my understanding of the curriculum to grow. I also attended the Teacher's College "Saturday Reunion" Professional Development day, which provided further insights for helping students achieve excellence in literacy.
Ultimately, I understand the Teacher's College approach to literacy, and I am eager to extend my knowledge to new school districts!
